Batteries come in most anything that is mobile, and though their importance varies I think we can all agree on the next 2 points, they are:

  • Important, like really important
  • It’s critical, like mission critical; regardless of what your mission is you probably need your phone.

Well, that’s it huh, article done. If you want to find out how to keep that valuable battery alive, keep reading.

Battery packs are plentiful, everywhere you look 3 new battery packs are created and made available. Each one of them has a new feature trying to push them over the top.  I bought into many of these gimmicks trying to find the coolest high-tech battery pack. Below I have a grouping of battery packs and reasons for each.

4 drastically different batteries, each with something that makes them special.

#1 from the left side:

  • Small form factor, fits anywhere
  • Sleek, comes in thousands of colors
  • super low capacity at 1500mAh

#2 from the left side:

  • Very high capacity at 20,000mAh
  • Digital power readout
  • Heavy and thick

#3 from the left side:

  • Solar charging
  • Bright LED lights
  • Water Resistance
  • I don’t even know the capacity (the battery shows 100,000mAh)

#4 from the left side:

  • Qi charging
  • Charge 3 devices at the same time
  • Thin enough to fit in the pocket with the phone
  • 10,000mAh decent battery life

So what matters and what is important in a battery. This is often up to personal preference but since we’re here, I’ll give you mine. If it doesn’t fit in my pocket it makes it tough to want one. Though solar is cool, this one is terrible. It may say 100,00mAh and I knew when buying it that it was a knock off but even the solar is bad.

I knew going in it this was ridiculous, but I had to give it a shot.

The small one has its place but it’s not my go-to battery and frankly never will be. I thought all I wanted in a battery pack was cool little perks and twists on a battery pack. After getting the newest installation to the battery crew (the MyCharge unplugged 10k). When I got the new battery pack things changed. That’s when I started really looking at the differences in battery packs. Being able to put the MyCharge in my pocket and slide the phone in next to it and have it charge with no cables has been the convenience I didn’t know I wanted.

I spent time the last few weeks going back and forth between these packs and trying to get a feel for which ones is the one I feel has the best generic use for every day.

Size matters and I loved having 20K at my disposal but if I wasn’t carrying a bag with me I never wanted to bring it. The little one was not enough to get me through and the sleek factor never came in. The only one I felt myself happy to use day in and day out was the mid-size 10K. The MyCharge had some benefits I didn’t expect off hand. With some phones having different USB charge ports right now this made life a little easier not having to worry about what cable I had vs. the wife had. I’d say the winner of the battery packs that I would recommend would be the MyCharge Unplugged series. It’s thin, has good battery life, looks nice, and adds a layer of simplicity that I didn’t know I was missing before. Long live the MyCharge.
