Stocks plunged recently for the active video camera giant: GoPro. Sales are not what was predicted and some market data analysis has some thoughts on what happened. goproThere are only so many people doing things that look amazing or unique that only an action cam can capture.

Most of us are probably going to have shots like this:

So after everybody cool enough to utilize an action cam bought one the market started to dry up. Couple that with a weak incentive to upgrade to the newer models and you have a recipe for long term failure.

Garmin just released a voice recorded action cam. Sony, Nikon, Olympus, and other random knock-off devices. This means that when you decide to buy an action cam over a normal video camera, you are now split to spend your money through one of many manufactures. For many companies that make action cams; other hardware of different varieties are available to keep income flowing into the company.

So whats next for companies that have a few too many eggs in the action cam basket. Are the original owners finally going to upgrade to the newest versions during the holidays and breath new life into the companies finances for a few more months. Are the companies going to start a new line up of hardware that offers a broader market. Time will tell on all of these things but in the mean time I’m going to stick with my video camera and wait a few more years to upgrade. I think i’ll be fine. . . . maybevideo-cam
