Power supplies are changing. If you haven’t been watching the video card market over the last few years you may have missed out on some important changes. New high-end video cards now and potentially all new video cards in the future will require an updated power cable.

New power cable standard for GPUs

So how can you make sure that your new power supply has one of these neat little plugs on top of your plug? This is technically found as 12VHPWR (12-pin+4-pin) 600W cable. Luckily I don’t have to look into the technical specifications in order to see if a power supply has this new-fangled design.

Enter ATX 3.0.  This new power supply standard allows manufacturers to build on a universal design to work with the new GPU requirements.

So what has XPG actually done here? The new series of power supplies are all gold-rated but are on the highest end of gold with performance of up to 89% at 20% load, 90.91% at 50% load, and 88% at 100% operating load. This comes with an impressive 10-year warranty due to many industrial-grade protections on the chips inside.

We haven’t had a chance to put these under load yet but are excited to get our hands on one soon.
